or... well. the amount of girlhood is debatable. if you're the ordinary sort, with no magical powers or senses and about the average amount of impure thoughts... yes, she's just a girl. a wild-eyed girl who looks like she desperately needs to be introduced to a hairbrush, but just a girl. those with magic senses or a pure heart, however, can see the glittering horns branching up and out through that wild hair, and the fur and scales decorating the sides of her face and the rest of her body.

she continues her wide-eyed and unfocused perusal of your face for several more seconds, and then huffs a disgruntled breath out through her nose, like you've personally disappointed her.

(unless you happen to be (a) Link, in which case: you are getting your face touched by clawed hands as her eyes somehow go even wider. you may not want to resist! those talons are impressive!) ]

[ have you ever seen a dragon droop. between the ears and the tail it'd be comical, except for the way her eyes start to well up. ]

[Yes. Tanit is a minor dragon, even impure hearts can see her, but he's used to the drooping.]

[ that sets her off; she blinks twice and starts crying in earnest, silently but with fat tears rolling down her cheeks. despite that, her expression doesn't really change, and when the first tear falls she blinks and reaches up to touch her own face, looking at her wet fingertips after. ]

...he was supposed to find me.

I'm sure he's trying.

[He hesitates, and reaches to take her hand.]

Yer...really far from where he's supposed to be looking. We're not in Hyrule.

[ she allows it, carefully curling her fingers so her talons don't brush his skin, and starts to wipe her face delicately with her other hand— only to pause, nose wrinkling ]

Hyrule is...

[ ...her land. yes. she knows that much. which means... ]

...I missed?

[ MILDLY INDIGNANT ]

[Usually he wouldn't worry about claws, but hers ARE infused with light, that is actually kind of a concern. He still squeezes her hand.]

No, ya didn't miss.

Ya got taken.

[ she stares at him for a beat, returning the squeeze almost absentmindedly— and then brightens, literally, the glow peeking between patches of scales and glittering in her horns and spikes ratcheting up as her eyes narrow. there's a raspy sort of growl to her voice as she hisses: ]

Who? Who would dare?

Some people who are the last power of this world. Supposedly to save it.

But pretty rude they don't ask first.

[ her tail has started whipping back and forth rapidly, like an agitated cat's ]

I will not save another land before my own.

I mean, ya might get sent home, but its kind of hard to control that.

On other hand, much time may not pass back home, so Link may not even miss ya.

[palewanderer]

[ "Link may not even miss you."

this time she notices when she starts crying, even though it's no less silent than the last— mostly because the pain that prompts it is usually a much duller ache. ]

I just mean he's not experiencing the TIME of ya being GONE so he can't...know yer gone. Like as a real physical thing.

[ she cries elegantly, at least! there's no messy sniffling or hiccups, just a steady drip. ]

...It hurts to think that he wouldn't miss me. But it also hurts to think he would. And it hurts that I will have to wait once more.

[ she is largely a peaceable creature, but she is heart-sore and angry, and abruptly exhausted enough of both to be cranky with it. ...perhaps, if she is lucky, she will find the opportunity to bite something about it. ]

This place ain't SO bad.

I have been under "no pressure" for long enough to watch the land and stars change.

I was free to do whatever I wanted.

I slept, and I fulfilled my purpose. There was no need for anything else.
